Congratulation to Brian and Sheila on your Diamond Wedding Anniversary

with best wishes from everyone at the Grange

29th February 2024

Thank you to everyone for making Brian and Sheila’s 60th wedding anniversary such a special occasion.  A special mention and thanks to Sally the Community Barber C.I.C for starting the day's events with a personalised grooming experience for Brian. In Brian’s own words his new haircut and shave made him feel ‘a million dollars’ before he changed into his wedding outfit to surprise Sheila. Thank you to Simply Flowers in Sandiacre for the beautiful wedding posy and boutonniere, to Diddly Doos in Sandiacre for the balloon displays and to Richie Lee for entertaining everyone with a fantastic afternoon of songs including the ‘couples choice’. We must also thank his Worship the Mayor Councillor Frank Philips for his visit which completed the special day for both Brian, Sheila and their family.

Activities and Events

We have a busy month ahead with Mother’s Day on the 10th March and an early Easter.  This year Good Friday falls on the 29th with Easter Monday on the 1st of April.  British Summer Time also begins over the Easter weekend when clocks ‘springing forward’ one hour in the early hours of Sunday 31st.  At last we can begin to look forward to brighter days.

We have a varied list of entertainment throughout the month beginning with a return visit from Paul Newsham.  Earlier in the year  his previous talk was a great success and we know many residents are looking forward to seeing him again.  We also have a visit from Johnny Victory so be sure to make a date in your diary for his popular afternoon and together we will join in with your favourite singalong songs.

Easter activities will be ongoing and we hope to be wearing our Easter Bonnets during the visit from Nick Golden towards the end of the month.

Terry Hallam Memorial Quiz Trophy

Thank you to all the residents who took part in our February competition and congratulations to Gill for achieving top marks.  Your accumulative scores will be carried forward throughout the year and the overall winner announced in January 2025. Well done to all and keep on quizzing!

Lancaster Lounge

Our superstar Steve the Handyman has painted the smaller of our two lounge areas in sympathetic colours to show the beautiful details of the building which was established over a hundred years ago and the home of Sir Robert Doncaster.  Sir Robert and his family have a wealth of history attached to the area and as a fitting tribute the newly refurbished lounge will be known as the Lancaster Lounge.

This project is continually evolving and we are currently in contact with local historians, the Sandiacre library situated on ‘Doncaster Avenue’ and St. Giles Church Sandiacre.  Once complete our findings will be displayed for everyone to enjoy.

Our particular thanks to Helen at the library for all her efforts.

Vinnies Plants Stall.

It’s almost Spring again and from the first week in March Vinnie will be selling spring bulbs in aid of Treetops and the Ward 2 Hospice at the Florence Nightingale Derby.  Pots of bulbs are  reasonably priced and sell out quickly so please look for Vinnie’s stall by the front door and not only brighten up your garden but brighten up the lives of others. Vinnie is now ten years of age and continues to make his mum and grandma very proud.  He thanks you for your continued support.

This month we celebrate four birthdays and send our best wishes to Grace on the 19th, Sheila on the 22nd, Margaret H on the 28th and Margaret S on the 30th. Everyone at the Grange hopes you have the very best of days.
