The Grange Gazette - March 2023 Edition

Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

At this time of year the weather often appears sunny and bright but it is very cold. In the words of a well known poem ‘the north winds doth blow’ although we hope there will certainly be no ‘snow’. Trees are beginning to come into bud and here at the Grange we welcome the sight of spring flowers as they emerge in the garden. When we asked about your favourite flowers, bright yellow blooms and in particular the cheerful daffodil were chosen by the majority of residents. We hope residents enjoyed making flower displays using yellow chrysanthemum during our February flower arranging session. Your displays certainly brightened the lounge area and reminded everyone that spring is just around the corner. During the early hours of Sunday 26th March clocks will ‘spring’ forward and we can anticipate the gradual return of lighter nights which always lift our spirits.

Entertainment and Activities

During our weekly programme of entertainment we look forward to welcoming your favourite singers. We would particularly like to mention Godfrey Graver who returns to entertain everyone on the 23rd with ‘Songs from the Shows’ on the piano in our main reception area. Godfrey has long raised funds for local charities and will be donating his fee from the Grange to our chosen charities of Treetops and the hospice ward of the Florence Nightingale Hospital on London Road. Thank you for your kindness Godfrey and for all that you do.

March Birthdays

This month we have four birthdays at the Grange with three of those residents celebrating ‘milestone’ birthdays. On the 22nd we congratulate Sheila on her 90th and Ellen on the 23rd her 80th birthday, on the 28th Margaret H also celebrates her 90th and Margaret S enjoys her birthday on the 30th. Everyone at the Grange wishes each and every one of you a Happy Birthday and we hope you enjoy the best of days.

Making a Difference

Throughout the year the Grange always likes to make a difference and support charities with fundraising and awareness events. We are currently supporting Treetops and Ward 2 Hospice of the Florence Nightingale Hospital and posters will be displayed with details of forthcoming raffles, tombolas and music events we are arranging. Donations of unwanted gift sets, wine or chocolate are most helpful and may be given to Shirley for use in our future fundraising events. We would like to thank you in anticipation of your continued support in our efforts to ‘make a difference’ for others.

Terry Hallam Quiz Trophy

Congratulations to Joyce and Peter, joint winners of the quiz trophy donated by the family of Terry Hallam. Thank you to everyone for taking part throughout last year and we look forward to future quiz events to determine our winner for 2023. Happy quizzing.
